Memorial Cross Erected on Chelyuskin Cape, Eurasian Continent's Northernmost Point

On October, 2, concluding the archpastoral visit to the northern parishes, Archbishop Anthony of Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk and a missionary group of the diocesan clergy arrived at Chelyuskin Cape to erect the memorial cross. Chelyuskin Cape situated at the tip of the Taymyr Peninsula is the northernmost point of the Eurasian continent.

The ceremony of erecting the cross at the northernmost borders of Russia was led by His Eminence Archbishop Anthony, diocese's oeconomous archimandrite Nectary (Seleznyov), Taimyr church district's rural dean archpriest Mikhail Grenadyorov and other clergy.

Speaking on the event, the archbishop dwelt upon its church and patriotic significance: "The Cross at the Arctic Ocean shore has been erected to show everyone that this is our Orthodox state, even at the northernmost borders".

The same day Archbishop Anthony of the Krasnoyarsk diocese visited the frontier station where he blessed the frontiersmen drawing civil duty in extreme north conditions. Head of the regional frontier services department colonel Vladimir Chmykhailo presented anniversary medals to Archbishop Anthony and representatives of the diocese on occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Russian Frontier Troops.

Archbishop conducted the rite of aspersion with holy water of the burial places of the military pilots and sailors who laid down their lives during the exploration of the Far North. The diocese's head also took part in the solemn installation of memorial tablets on the monuments to the soldiers who died for the Fatherland.

Newly-Built Holy Trinity Church in Talnakh Carries On Preparation for Consecration Ceremony

On the occasion of the forthcoming consecration ceremony, archpriest Mikhail Grenadyorov, Taimyr church district's rural dean, accompanied by archdeacon Apollinary (Obukhov) visited the newly constructed Holy Trinity church in Talnakh district, Norilsk, on September 20, Forefeast of the Nativity of the Theotokos. The new church in Talnakh will be consecrated by Archbishop Anthony of Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk in November 2009, reports Taimyr deanery's press service.

Assisted by the Holy Trinity church's senior priest fr. Daniil Tikhonov, archpriest Mikhail celebrated the Divine Liturgy. With the service completed, the rural dean has working meetings with the Talnakh district administration's head Aleksey Ruzhnikov and the church's benefactors.

Church in Bolshoy Kemchug To Be Reconstructed

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Anthony of Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk, churches of the Krasnoyarsk diocese destroyed and abandoned in the Soviet times are now reconstructed over the whole diocesan territory. The construction work has recently began in the church of St Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia in Bolshoy Kemchug village, Krasnoyarsk territory, reports Achinsk Kazansky Cathedral's website.

According to historical records, St Nicholas parish in Bolshoy Kemchug became a separate parish in 1849. It included villages Bolshoy Kemchug, Malinovka, Antonovka, Sharlovka, and Dubrovka. The stone one-altar church in the name of St Nicholas the Wonderworker was built there in 1848. Before the revolution, the parish has its own library and church school.

Church of Alexander Nevsky in Ilanskaya Village Celebrates Patronal Feast

Priest Georgy Knyazev conducted the Divine Liturgy with Cross procession in the Church of Alexander Nevsky in Ilanskaya village, Krasnoyarsk territory, on the day of Translation of the relics of St. Alexander Nevsky. There are always many villagers gathering in the church on its patronal feast (the village's population is about 16000), though in the Soviet times the church was closed and desecrated.

The Church in the name of Alexander Nevsky was built for religious needs of the numerous railmen at the Ilanskaya station in 1899. Cross processions with the icon of Alexander Nevsky were conducted regularly on August 30 (Old Style).

In the atheistic times, the parish's builing was occupated by the DOSAAF (Voluntary Association for Assistance to Army, Aviation and Fleet) - it was used as a dancing club and a gym. There were Orthodox villagers trying to stand against the desecration, but all the efforts were ineffectual. Negleted by the association, the decayed building was later abolished.

By the decision of the district executive committee, the wooden building was pulled down in the 1960s. The collected money were put in "further village's beautification". The blasphemous deed soon redounded upon its authors. Though, when the time came to gather stones on the Kansk land and revive the Mother-Church, some of those people repented. One of them is today's most active parishioner. Now the newly-built stone church is standing at the at the Ilanskaya station, proving the motto of Alexander Nevsky: "God is not in force, but in truth"

Krasnoyarsk People Payed Tribute to Terror Attack Victims

On September, � Russia celebrates the day of solidarity in the fight against terrorism. With the blessing of Archbishop Anthony of Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk, mitred archpriest Ioann Romanyuk, diocesan administration's secretary, celebrated memorial service for victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan and for the policemen killed in flashpoints. The service was conducted near the Chapel of Dmitry of Thessalonica, Krasnoyarsk, built as a tribute to the memory of the killed law enforcement officers.

The day is associated with the Beslan siege in which more than 330 people (more than 150 children) died after a school was seized by Chechen rebels.

According to the Federal Law "On the days of military honour of Russia", on September, 3 it is conventional to pay tribute to victims of the terror attacks and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, reports press service of the State Department of Internal Affairs of the Krasnoyarsk territory.

The mourning gathering was also arranged on the solidarity day with the assistance of members of the Department of Internal Affairs and Krasnoyarsk police personnel.

"Names of 169 policeman killed in the line of duty are inscribed on the monument. 20 of them died protecting public order and maintaining constitutional order in the territory of the North Caucasus. It is the biggest sacrifice we offered up for the peaceful population to leave in security and be sanguine about the future. We should always remember the deed of valour of our colleagues", said Igor Mitrofanov, deputy head of the Krasnoyarsk territory's Department of Internal Affairs at the ceremony.

Archbishop Anthony Blessed Church Bells in Sosnovoborsk

His Eminence Archbishop Anthony has led the rite of blessing of the bells of the Vvedensky (of the Presentation in the Temple) church in Sosnovoborsk, Krasnoyarsk deanery, today.

The ten bells were produced for the Sosnovoborsk parish at the well-known Vera bell foundry in Voronezh.

The renewal of the Sosnovoborsk parish began more than ten years ago. Bells and crosses were installed in the church building on the feast Pascha in 2007. Now the new bells will call the parishioners for prayer and enrich the solemn moments of the divine services of the Church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Temple.

Four New Cupolas Installed on the Kansk Holy Trinity Cathedral

Four new cupolas have been installed on the Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of the most significant churches of the Kansk deanery, on the feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos. Now the cathedral has nine copulas, the same number it used to have before the1930s, reports our staff reporter in the Kansk church district.

The central Kansk cathedral was built in 1804 and consecrated in honour of the Image Not Made By Hands of the Savior (renamed as the Holy Trinity Cathedral in 1992). In the Soviet times its building suffered a lot of damages. Now the church is undergoing repair works. With the installation of cupolas completed, next thing on the agenda is to finish restoration of the roof and beautification of the church�s territory.
