Within the framework of the 9th anniversary of the Kansk navy cadet school, its 21d troop (6 grade) has been awarded the right to be named "Peresvet". "Peresvet" is the assault ship of the RF Navy Pacific Fleet named after the St Venerable Alexandr Peresvet.
Present at the the appellation ceremony were representatives of the RF Navy, local administration and intelligentzia. Fr. Sergy Smutin, senior priest of the cadet school's St Andrew's Church. conducted the prayer to St Venerable Alexandr Peresvet and presented icons to the cadets. The Kansk administration offered to send several cadets to the excursion trip to the "Peresvet" assault ship.
According to the saint's hagiography, St Alexandr Peresvet was a Russian Orthodox Christian monk who fought in a single combat with the Tatar champion Chelubey at the opening of the Battle of Kulikovo (8 September 1380). Peresvet did not fall from the saddle, while Chelubey did. The Russian people thought it to be the sky-sign of their further victory.
