Sacred Objects and Places of the Krasnoyarsk diocese

Churches of the Krasnoyarsk diocese, as well as all Russian churches, had to undergo many severe trials. When the Great Patriotic War began, almost all churches were closed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory because of the anti-church government policy. Most of the churches were destroyed or used for economic purposes, others were simply closed. By 2007, more than 230 churches were reconstructed owing to work of Archbishop Anthony transferred to the Krasnoyarsk diocese in 1990.

Before the Revolution, relics of saints worshiped by all Orthodox people and shrines with relics of locally worshiped saints were kept almost in every church of the Yeniseisk diocese. The 7 decades of the Soviet power affected these relics adversely. They were thrown out into garbage cans or burnt in museum furnaces. Risking their lives, orthodox believers managed to safe some of the relics.

At the time of the Krasnoyarsk diocese's revival, relics of Martyr Vasiliy of Mangazeisk especially worshiped in Siberia were acquired again. Now these relics are kept in the Turukhansk Holy Trinity Monastery. According to recent reports, the grave of righteous Daniil of Achinsk (in Yeniseisk), which was considered to be irretrievably lost, was found again.

In the mid 1990s, Saint Luka, Archbishop of Krasnoyarsk and the Crimea (Voino-Yasenetskiy; 1877 – 1961), Archbishop of Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk in 1943-1944, a famous surgeon and confessor of the 20th century especially worshiped by Krasnoyarsk people, was canonized. The 2000 Bishop’s Council of the Russian Orthodox Church reckoned him in the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. The same year, Bishop of Yeniseisk Amphilokhiy (Skvortsov; 1885 - 1937) and other Holy Church's martyrs Krasnoyarsk priests of the 20th century were also included into the Assembly.

Nowadays relics of other saints worshipped by the Russian Orthodox Church are also kept in the churches of the Krasnoyarsk diocese's deaneries.

Thanks to God’s mercy and Krasnoyarsk clergymen’s care, some of the miracle-working icons most worshiped before the Revolution were saved from violation and destruction. The Icon of the Holy Transfiguration, the holy guardian of Krasnoyarsk, is now kept in the Krasnoyarsk Local History Museum. During the solemn cross procession in June 2004, the icon was brought to the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral for a few days. The locally worshipped miracle-working Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan is kept in the Holy Trinity Church in Kazachenskoye village. There are ancient icons that exude myrrh in other churches of the Krasnoyarsk diocese. They are especially worshiped by the congregation.
